Silicone is an odourless, colourless polymer composed mainly of silicon (found naturally in sand, quartz and rocks).

Pure Platinum silicone is a type of silicone that uses only platinum (precious metal) as a catalyser. It needs no plasticizers to stabilize it or make it flexible, no bisphenols, no pvc and no phthalates. Platinum silicone is highly durable and hypoallergenic. UNPLASTIK bags are completely non-toxic and can safely be subjected to heat without the worry of toxic chemicals leaching into the bag’s contents; making them an ideal replacement for single-use plastics. All UNPLASTIK bags meet both FDA and LFGB safety standards. LFGB is the European standard for testing silicone products that come in contact with food. 

UNPLASTIK bags are made of 100% pure platinum silicone and can be reused thousands of times. As platinum silicone offers the smallest footprint in regards to cleaning-by far and the cost of materials, are all reflected in our pricing. It is worth spending a bit more up front considering how much plastic we use over the course of our lives; harming not only our marine life but also our body.

At UNPLASTIK, our mission is to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible. Hence, all UNPLASTIK bags are shipped package-free from the site.

UNPLASTIK bags are dishwasher friendly. Place them open and facing downward in the dishwasher. Alternatively, they can also be handwashed with soap and warm water. DO NOT turn them inside out as this can damage the seals.

UNPLASTIK bags are microwave safe. Keep them open or partially ventilated when using in microwave and allow them to cool off before handling.

UNPLASTIK bags are totally safe to freeze and defrost meats. Make sure to remove excess air from your bag before sealing. Afterwards, place in dishwasher or handwash as usual. 

Here are some simple instructions for using your bag to Sous Vide: Place the ingredients in the bag, then seal the bag leaving a small opening on the seal. Then slowly immerse the bag in water, the pressure of the water on the outside of the bag will push out any excess air and create a vacuum-like tight seal around the food. Once the bag is almost fully immersed, close the seal completely to avoid any air coming in.

UNPLASTIK bags are oven safe. Make sure to place them on an oven safe sheet and keep the heat below 220C. Keep them open or partially ventilated and allow them to cool off before handling.
